Steven Eng - Elite Team Assistant Coach
Coach Eng is entering his first year at Combine, with a plethora of high-level coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels. Coach Eng is coming to Combine most recently from the Navarro College Bulldogs (NJCAA DI) in Corsicana, Texas. Eng worked for Coach Grant McMillan and served as an assistant coach during the 2025–2026 season and helped the Bulldogs eclipse 15 wins in Region 14, which is widely regarded as one of the toughest leagues in the country.
Some notable games during the year included a 74-33 win over Weatherford College, in which the Bulldogs’ defense forced 26 turnovers and held them to 30% shooting from the field with zero made threes. The Bulldogs also swept conference foe Lee College. Coach Eng’s primary roles were scouting, recruiting, defense, and player development for guards. Eng played a big role in developing Jalyn Patterson (USC Upstate), Shawn Mitchell (Clark Atlanta), Brave Rutsindura (Gardner-Webb), and Jaquarious Patterson (UNC Pembroke).
Prior to Navarro, Coach Eng spent two seasons at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. He was an assistant coach, advanced fitness teacher, and resident manager. During his time there, he coached against some very high-profile teams, including IMG Academy, Moravian Prep, Hargrave Military Academy, Hamilton Heights, the Blue Ridge School, Winston-Salem Christian, and Word of God.
Eng’s main role at Oak Hill was to prepare players for the next level. Some players he coached included Donovan Rakotonanahary (Northern Kentucky), TJ Jackson (USC Aiken), Gavin Cormany (Forsyth Tech), and Austin Omondi (McLennan/Florida State College at Jacksonville).
In other capacities, Eng was also able to work with Christian Anderson Jr. (Texas Tech/Charlotte Hornets), Micah Robinson (TCU), Jamie Vinson (Texas/Texas A&M), Ethan Mgboko (Vanderbilt), Kaden Magwood (Auburn/Murray State), Francis Chukwudebelu (Santa Clara), DeMarco Johnson (Elon/Marshall), Deondre Lindsey (Iona/Tennessee State), and Donovan Williams Jr. (Georgia).
In addition to Oak Hill and Navarro, Eng also has experience as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Emory & Henry University (NCAA DII). Eng was tasked with being involved with all facets of running the program, most notably logistics, scouting, and player development.
Eng also has some AAU coaching experience working with Global Squad Basketball. During his time with them, he served in a variety of roles, most notably as a head 16U boys’ coach and a shooting instructor. Some notable players Eng was able to work with while coaching at Global Squad include Solo Ball (UConn), Collin Metcalf (Northeastern/Maryland), Cesar Tchilombo (Northern Kentucky/Millersville PA/Lincoln Memorial), Carter Berg-McLean (Loyola MD), and Jeannot Basima (Yale), among others.
Eng played collegiate basketball at the University of Valley Forge and Waynesburg University. During his sophomore season, Eng played a huge role in his team being the fifth-highest-scoring offense in Division III at 93 points per game. For his career, Eng started in 20 of the 58 games he appeared in and shot a career 38% from three.
Eng graduated in 2022 with his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Waynesburg University and later earned his master’s in Coaching & Athletic Administration from Liberty University in 2025.
